The original transfer medium is something in-between a thermal compound and thermal adhesive. It sticks definitely too good for a normal compound but not as good as a real adhesive should. Anyway, I didn't get the heatsink off with my bare hands (but I didn't dare to apply too much force). When I used a screwdriver as a lever it did fell off almost by itself. I put a few layers of paper between the screwdriver and the circuit board not to accidentally damage it.
